Guru Laghima

Guru Laghima was an Air Nomad and renowned poet who lived at the Northern Air Temple around 3,829 BG. It's from the Legend of Korra television series. In Book 3 (season three) a new villain named Zaheer talks about Guru Laghima and his poetry. One of his poems/quotes goes:
Let go of your earthly tether,
Enter the void,
Empty and become wind.
It is said he discovered the secret to weightlessness, which allowed him to unlock the air bending ability of flight. This essentially allowed Laghima to become untethered from the earth and lived the last forty years of his life without touching the ground.
During his lifetime, Guru Laghima became a renowned poet with writing so influential that it
survived the Hundred Year War. In his honor, a mountaintop near the Northern Air Temple known as Laghima's Peak was named after the Guru. In addition, several caves located two miles from the Northern Air Temple are adorned with statues of Laghima, along with other influential monks. Over time, however, the truth about his achievements was lost and his abilities were dismissed as children's stories and legends. I've based the BG on a background thumbnail from the Legend of Korra Book Two (season two) painted by Josh Middleton.
I went over it and changed it composition wise to match Laghima.
I've never seen this character in the show, that's why I thought it would be cool to make my own design and have fun with it.
Hope Avatar Korra fans like it.
Peace out.

Thunder

Thunder was created by Jerry Ordway and Mike Manley.
Her first appearance was in 1996.
Thunder is the super-powered alter-ego of a young girl from the planet Binderaan, circa 9,000 A.D.
The power of Shazam is bestowed upon her by Captain Marvel himself.
After a mission to the 20th century, Thunder is sent to the 30th century, when pro-science attack and destroy the Rock of Eternity, a major source of all magic. After subduing some of the terrorists with the help of member of the Legion of Super Heroes she is offered membership. which accepts while continuing her mission to collect all the scattered pieces of the Rock of Eternity.
Instead of saying "Shazam" to invoke her powers she says "Captain Marvel", that's a neat little spin.
I've actually worked with Mike Manley at Warner Bros a while back on some cartoons Bruce Timm was producing. Good times!
Slowly but surely more Legionnaires are coming your way...
Peace out!

Chemical King

Chemical King real name Condo Arlik was born on the colony world Phlon. During his birth the hospital was rusted. The physicians realized that Arlik was the catalyst for these rapid oxidations and isolated him. Unable to cause harm to anyone, he spent most of his life studying chemistry so he could learn how to control his powers. Once he mastered it, he was released into the world and was inspired by the Legion to do good. He was among the Legionnaires who fought in the final stand against Brainiac 1.0.
The BG was from a web search, you can find it at ashleynicolebooks.worldpress.com. I don't know the name of the artist otherwise it would be here. It worked with what I wanted to do.
I love coming up with the power FX.
I hope some Legion fans I know like it.
Cheers

X-Bomb Betty

This bombastic character it's a Legion reject who could generate an explosion equal to a 150 million megaton X-Bomb. She was rejected due to the fact that she could only use this ability once. Besides why would your scientist father want to turn you into a living X-Bomb? That's messed up.
The BG it's from Shuttestock, royalty freeee...
It would appear at this point I'm drawing Legion rejects instead of real Legionnaires.
Any thoughts on some "real" Legionnaires I haven't done and could draw next?
Cheers

Spy

Spy was a prospective member of The Legion of Super Heroes, but was rejected. He had acute senses and limited telepathy. He was telepathetic, also had extra-sensory perception. Later on with other rejects he became part of the United Planets Young Heroes.
The original BG was modified from the talented mrainbowwj-d73k2qc. Visit  his Deviant Art page.
I've enjoyed working with this particular piece a little extra.
Spies are always so cool.

Like a leaf in the wind...

Magnetic Kid

And to celebrate my 300th post... Enough Legion rejects, let's get back in track with real Legionnaires.
Magnetic Kid, real name Pol Krinn. He is the brother of Cosmic Boy. Magnetic Kid was a student of the Legion Academy and a member of the Legion eventually.
He is a Braalian and like all natives of Braal, has the ability to generate and manipulate magnetism.
He is close friends with Tellus and Shadow Lass.
The BG was manipulated form the original made by taylxrr, definitely looks different.
Arlik is next.

Tusker

And a Merry Christmas present for the Legion fans.
I wanted to play with the design of Tusker and make him a little Jack Kirby Hulk like since he is already grey like the original Hulk. I wasn't too crazy about doing the original look of this character when he tried for the Legion. The original BG was made by M Whistler, I've changed it to go better with Tusker.
Tusker, real name Horace Lafeaugh originally had the ability to extend his tusks to extreme lengths.
He was rejected when trying out for the Legion due to his impractical powers. Years later he became a villain. Over time his powers evolved. He now had an unbreakable skeleton and enhanced durability, becoming a gray skinned behemoth. He was sent to Takron-Galtos for his crimes.
Hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas!
Peace

Impulse

Bartholomew Henry "Bart" Alen II is a superheroe in the DC comics universe. Allen first appeared as the superhero Impulse, a teenager sidekick of the superhero the Flash, before later on becoming the second hero known as Kid Flash. The character first made a cameo appearance in The Flash #91 in 1994, while his first full appearance in issue #92, also appeared as the lead character in Impulse (1995-2002) and The Flash: The Fastest Man Alive (2006-2007). In the later series, the character became the fourth hero to assume the identity of The Flash.
As depicted in a Legion of Super-Heroes story, Barry Allen's children-the Tornado Twins-were arrested in 2995 A.D. by the government of Earth, which had fallen under the covert control of the Dominators. Following a one day trial on trumped-up charges of treason, the twins were executed.
Impulse appears in Legion of Super-Heroes Vol 4 #88, "Fast Times" as a guest star.
I've modified and changed enough a wallpaper from www.pcpro.co.uk for the BG.
I also toke the liberty to make Bart more of an adult teenager and made him wear the Legion's ring as if he got to be a member. Since this is fan art I get to do whatever I want and get to play with the character freely.
I was inspired by tonight's episode of the CW TV series The Flash and I just happened to be wearing the Flash t-shirt too LOL.
Hope you like it.

The Black Witch

Mysa Nal trained on Sorcerer's World to learn the mystic arts. Her vast powers helped the Legion of Super Heroes defeat Darkseid, after which she was offered membership and accepted, as the White Witch.
On the Retroboot New Earth, when Superboy-Prime killed Kinetix, Mordu gained all Mysa's powers. Mordru then injured Blok, who was trying to protect her. Enraged she used her most powerful spell Aufero Magnus Infusco which caused all Mordu magical powers and his physical form to be absorbed into Mysa, causing her to transform into the Black Witch.
Since it's almost Halloween it seemed appropriate to post something like this.
The BG it's a modified wall paper I found.
I based this one on a comic book panel I came across.
I hope you all have an amazing Halloween!!!

Mnemonic Kid

Mnemonic Kid was a rejected Legionnaire applicant, who could induce memory loss. Angry that she had been rejected, she plotted her revenge by wiping parts of the Legionnaire's memories. Another Legion reject, Fortress Lad, came to the rescue by transforming into a giant fortress in order to protect the Legionnaires. Mnemonic Kid continued to use her powers against Fortress Lad, who resisted at the cost of losing all of his memories. As a last resort, Mnemonic Kid threw a grenade at Fortress Lad (and the Legionnaires inside him), but she caught the impact of the explosion herself and died.
The BG Sci Fi BG 1 was made by Creative Stock, I've changed it a little from the original.
To the Legion fans I said this...despite how busy I am with my full time job on The Simpsons, my side art projects and life in general, I always think about completing my mission of drawing all legionnaires. I got the Legion fans in my mind. I miss drawing legionnaires all the time for fun.
I'll do my best to post a character here and there.
Cheers

Sizzle

Teela Spuunvll hails from her native home world of Abaddonus. She has the ability to absorb energy and change it from one form to another, for example sound to light and gamma rays to electricity.
She was rejected from the Legion of Super Heroes because her powers only work if she can have energy available for her to become dangerous. Otherwise, she is vulnerable to somebody like Turtle, who can just punch her. The Legion had an idea for Sizzle, Turtle and Night Girl to become the charter members of the new auxiliar organization called the Legion Reserves. The BG it's called Eye of the Storm by Gabriel Bjork Stiernstrom.
Yup, I'm still drawing Legion characters. You should know by now what The Legion of Super Heroes is from looking at my Blog. Otherwise that would mean you never read any of the posts or you just don't care...

Guardians of the Galaxy

Here is my little drawing of the Guardians of the Galaxy. I thought the movie was great. I really liked it, it had heart, was well written, it was funny and the visual fx were amazeballs. Most people I know would agree. I feel bad for the sourpuss haters minority, haters gonna hate kinda thing.
Well done Marvel, among Avengers and Captain America, the Winter Soldier it's Guardians for me. I kinda had that feeling I got when I was 10 years old and saw Star Wars for the first time ever.
I loved working with Rocket and Gamora the most.
Enjoy...
Cheers

Guardians of the Galaxy rough pencil

And for my 282 post...It's been a while since I post a rough pencil to share my creative process.
I remember I loved the comic book when I was a kid. Well just about anything that was galactic I was into it, actually I still am LOL.
This piece was all done digitally with my Cintiq. I still have to clean it up and color it, I found a BG from a wallpaper website that fits perfectly. Can't wait to finish it but it may take a while, specially since my computer fell down the stairs and it'll be at the repair shop for a while.
The original 31st century team from an alternative time-line of the Marvel Universe called the Guardians of the Galaxy are a superhero team that appear in comic books published by Marvel Comics. The Guardians first appear in Marvel Super-Heroes #18 (Jan. 1969).
The modern version of the team was formed in the aftermath of Annihilation: Conquest in 2008.
The film about to come out it's based on the 2008 comic book.
Hope you like it. Happy Friday!

Gear

Gear is from a race composed of organic machinery beneath humanoid shells, he can transform parts of his body into tools and interface with computers. The Blackstar Juvenile Correctional Facility captured him for use in maintaining their systems. For quite some time, he pretended to be servile, while programming some of his machinery to disable the systems keeping the inmates contained and powerless upon his deactivation. On the arrival of the Legionnaire Sensor on the station, he was convinced by her to move prematurely, and was severely damaged in the process, activating his failsafes. However, Brainiac 5 successfully repaired him, and Gear remained on the Legion Outpost space station until most of the Legion was lost in a rift and the team was forcefully disbanded as a resultR.J. Brande then made contact with many of the remaining Legionnaires, including Gear, and put together a plan to construct a "Legion World" - an artificial planetoid to house a revived and expanded team, which Gear and Invisible Kid designed and helped to construct.

The BG Sci Fi Lab Corridor was made by
Hawk17015,
visit his Deviant Art page at:
http://hawk17015.deviantart.com/
I made a few changes to match Gear.
It's been a while since I've done any
Legion of Super Heroes characters.
But I still have a lot of personal projects
I would like to pay some attention to,
like my paintings for an art gallery,
a children's book, storyboard my own
Sci Fi epic film,
work on my own website and so forth.
I'll do my best to at least do one
Legionnaire per week
but I can't promise you anything.
I hope you like this one and my
new settle changes.
Cheers

Captain America. The Springfield Soldier

I saw Captain America The Winter Soldier last night. I thought it was a great film all around. A good spy/war/action/super hero movie, not just a great super hero flick but a great movie period.
As a tribute to this awesome film and character I thought I should post something related to fighting injustice in this dysfunctional system. As I mentioned in an earlier post, Married to the Blob it's the 540th Simpsons episode, it was aired January 12th 2014. I had the privilege to work on it as a character designer. Regardless, I have mixed up feelings with some color super hero related things in this episode.
Sometimes changing what you are joking about to the point it becomes something else and parody has almost disappeared, could be unnecessary for the making of a great television show. I've noticed when it comes to super heroes most of the time things are changed and colored so differently that it's almost an insult to the comic book community. At the same I totally understand the legalities. Therefore I'm posting how this Captain America Jack Kirby style should have been colored as a fan tribute. The upper version it's how it should have been, the bottom version it's what aired...Seriously who colors Captain America pink and orange? Really?
Please forgive me Jack Kirby wherever you are in comic book artist Gods heaven, it wasn't my fault.
May Truth, Justice and the American Way prevail!

Legion of Substitute Heroes

Here is the updated Legion of Substitute Heroes group shot!
A group of 30th-century heroes who were denied membership into the Legion of Super-Heroes, due to their powers being deemed limited or inadequate. So they banded together to prove the Legion wrong.
To my knowledge this is a complete group shot of the substitutes. I apologize "if" I left some character out due to my unawareness.
For an all Legionnaires group shot you may have to wait for a while, but I'll get there eventually. You are probably asking yourself why are they wearing all legion rings? I know it's a cheat but it's looks more dynamic if some members could fly on the shot. The BG is called "Parking Structure" and was painted by Kurt Richards. I've only changed it a bit.
I'm planning to contact DC comics to see if they are interested in making a poster of this.
Feel free to comment on any of my posts, hope you all dig it.
Cheers

Urk

Urk is a former member of the Legion of Substitute Heroes and a current member of the Legion Academy. Very little is known about Urk even though he has been appearing in various Legion of Superheroes comics for almost thirty years, except this mischievous alien loves to chew on wires. The only readable word Urk has ever said is "Urk." He has also spoken an unreadable alien language, though. The BG, Sci-Fi Interior by Mark Yang was the perfect choice for a wire chewing alien. Special thanks to CA for the info on Urk, much appreciated. I believe now that I've done most of Substitute Heroes an upgraded group shot it's in order... I'm sure by now someone noticed I've been drawing nothing by ugly and obscure characters. Well, that's what happens when you get the cool and sexy ones done first. I'm still having a blast finding new challenging ways to make ugly characters look cool the best that I can. Staying "somewhat" faithful to the original comic book design it's a must for my personal taste. No worries I'll keep em' coming until I'm done with ALL of them.
Long live the Legion.

Double Header

Bam! Double whammy, double post!
Frenk and Dyvud Retzun were from Janus, a world where a species starts as conjoined twins and eventually split into two identical beings.
Double-Header has the power of having two heads with two distinct personalities. He was rejected after his tryout for the Legion of Super-Heroes and instead joined the Legion of Substitute Heroes.
He was killed in Earth-Man's assault on the Subs, but this was never shown on-panel.
The BG, Landfall Terminal by Michael Pedro. I was influenced by Stuart Immonen's art on Double Header's expressions.
